Genetically modified plants (GMP) are crops whose DNA has been intentionally modified to make them resistant to pests and diseases, tolerant to herbicides, nutritionally improved or environmentally resilient.

Among the different regulaƟons concerning the cultivation of GMP, acceptance thresholds, and their use in food and feed processing, the European governmental regulations are the strictest. To ensure compliance with these regulations and to give consumers who reject genetically modified food the chance to avoid GMP, reliable analytical methods for controlling the different production chains have been developed.
